1988
Quilceda Creek
Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Our Quilceda Creek Cabernet was made from 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon from the Kiona and the Mercer Ranch (now Champoux) vineyards. Twenty-two months in French oak (15 percent new) produced an elegant and very approachable wine that showed some hints of black cherry. Like our Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, its finish is full, rich, smooth, and velvety. We made 925 cases of this youthful, intense wine.

1988 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve
The 1988 release marked a decade of Quilceda Creek wines, and like all of our previous vintages, it was made from 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. After being harvested from the Kiona Vineyard, the wine spent 36 months in French oak, 30 percent of which was new. Its total production was a mere 50 cases. A gentle, dry winter and consistently warm summer brought crop levels up and ensured well-balanced sugars and acidity. At release: The color is a dark, dense ruby-purple, and the aromas of black currants, violets and oak leap from the glass. On the palate, the wine is rich and complex, offering up all of the flavors suggested by the nose and adding additional nuances. The soft tannins complete a wine that is seamless, supple and smooth.
